FLUX.2 [klein]
The lightweight tier of FLUX.2, offered in 4B and 9B sizes, each with base and distilled variants; one of the most-downloaded open image-generation families at present.
Base
Highlights
- Two sizes, 4B and 9B; pick 4B if VRAM is short
- base and distilled are provided as pairs; distilled runs in few steps
- Primarily aimed at image-to-image and editing, with a full set of companion templates
- Long-running leader in downloads, with the largest pool of community LoRA and tutorials
Scope
- Good for: general photorealism, editing, and cases that need a large stock of ready-made LoRA
- Not for: chasing the newest release (FLUX.3 klein has succeeded it)
Tips
- The LoRA ecosystem is mature; to find a style, search Civitai for the Flux.2 base model first
- 4B and 9B LoRA are not interchangeable — confirm the base model before downloading
Cautions
- There are many versions within the family; downloading the wrong weights is easy
Parameters
- Steps
- distilled runs few steps (see template); base uses standard step counts
- CFG
- low CFG for distilled (template default)
- Resolution
- 1024 class
- VAE
- FLUX.2 VAE
Deployment
- 16GB verdict
- 4B is easy; for 9B, prefer the fp8 or distilled version.
- VRAM notes
- 4B base and 4B distilled have similar filenames; check the suffix when downloading.
- Suggested starting point
- Get 4B distilled running first, then move up to 9B as needed.
Comparison
The lightweight FLUX.2 tier at 430K downloads, on the strength of 4B that runs anywhere plus the largest ecosystem. But FLUX.3 klein has already overtaken it with 530K in ten days, so a new project has no reason to start here — unless you depend on a LoRA trained only on FLUX.2 klein.
