Qwen-Image 2.1 Turbo
An accelerated checkpoint that compresses 2.1's 25 steps to 8; the official release stores the sampling schedule directly in the weights, so it works on load without tuning the scheduler.
Base
Highlights
- 8-step generation, roughly three times the speed of the full version
- The sampling schedule is embedded in the checkpoint; changing num_inference_steps won't override it
- Default CFG=1, with prefix KV cache (reusing text and reference image encodings)
- Supports both text-to-image and editing; templates are separate from the full version
Scope
- Good for: batch drafts, fast prompt iteration
- Good for: Chinese text images, poster drafts
- Not for: final images requiring extreme detail (the detail ceiling of 8 steps is what it is)
Tips
- Keep CFG at 1; raising it only breaks the embedded schedule
- The prefix KV cache benefits most from "repeated edits with the same reference image"
- 8 steps isn't suited to stacking many LoRAs; it tends to blur
Cautions
- It shares the text encoder and VAE with the full version, but the templates differ; don't mix them
Parameters
- Steps
- 8 (official built-in schedule)
- CFG
- 1
- Resolution
- Uses 2.1's presets; official examples 1696×2528 / 2048×2048
- Text encoder
- Qwen3-VL-8B int8
- VAE
- Qwen-Image family VAE
Deployment
- 16GB verdict
- Currently one of the best-value Chinese generation setups on 16GB: 8 steps to an image, with the same VRAM pressure as the full version.
- VRAM notes
- What you save is time, not VRAM; weight size and encoder are unchanged. To save more, use int8/fp8 weights.
- Suggested starting point
- Use it as the default generation model; for fine-tuning, throw the same prompt at the full 25-step version and rerun.
Comparison
Same 7B backbone, 25 steps compressed to 8, with only a third of the full version's downloads (31k vs 171k) — most people still try the full version first. But on 16GB it's the best quality/speed combination in this batch: 8 steps, CFG 1, embedded sampling schedule, no scheduler tuning.
