omdsh-dev/DSH-better-sidebar

A complete sidebar workbench: built-in file rendering and editing, terminal, Git, and subagents, with support for third-party plugins registering new tabs.

Plugin

Install

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-better-sidebar

What it does

Turns the narrow bar on the right side of DSH into a workbench where you can get things done: the native sidebar on the left, plus a self-drawn panel below, where files, Git, and the terminal can all be operated.

Features

  • File management: lazy-loaded directory tree, file name coloring by git status, real-time refresh on directory changes, global search, drag-and-drop upload, and multi-select batch operations
  • Git: grouped by "merging / staged / unstaged", the commit message box has a "Generate" button, and branch and sync status are placed at the bottom
  • Read-only commit graph: shows branch lines and tags, with filtering by branch
  • Provides the ctx.betterSidebar service, which other plugins can call to add things to the sidebar
  • Dual-source "open with" menu: the same file can be opened with different programs

Good fit for

  • Wants to view files, review diffs, and perform Git operations directly in DSH without switching windows back and forth
  • Frequently jumps between multiple files and needs to see the directory structure
  • Wants their own plugin to add panels to the sidebar

Advice

  • Start with only the file tree and Git sections, then enable other panels such as the terminal once you are comfortable
  • It is a service-type plugin that other plugins may depend on; before uninstalling, confirm that no plugin is calling it
  • Before using the "Generate" button for a commit message, skim the content before committing; do not trust it blindly

Cautions

  • Moving file system and Git operations into a graphical interface makes accidental deletion or commits more costly than on the command line; for important repositories, first confirm that automatic commits are not enabled
  • 190,000 downloads indicate many users, but the more complete the features, the greater the potential for conflicts with other plugins
  • The commit graph is read-only; do not expect to use it for write operations such as rebase
