Non-autoregressive System 1 decision engine. Typed choice, score and yes/no decisions over any text in a single forward pass, in 100+ languages, with a router that picks the right checkpoint per request.

Project

What it does

A decision engine, not a chat model. You give it a piece of text and it returns a structured judgment directly — options, scores, yes/no — rather than a paragraph. Because it does not generate token by token, it is extremely fast: about 33 milliseconds per forward pass.

Features

  • Supports more than 100 languages, handling multilingual input through the same interface
  • Produces a result in a single forward pass (non-autoregressive), unlike a chat model that emits one character at a time
  • Includes a built-in router that automatically selects the appropriate checkpoint for a request, so you do not specify a model manually
  • Trained with reinforcement learning under a strictly proper scoring rule, with the goal of making output confidence meaningful in practice
  • Provides a Python package (`pip install laya`) and a TypeScript version, and can also connect to MCP, LangChain, LlamaIndex, and CrewAI

Good fit for

  • You need low-latency classification, routing, filtering, or yes/no judgments, such as automatically tagging support tickets
  • You want to embed a decision into an existing system rather than generate a paragraph for a user to read
  • You need consistent behavior across multilingual scenarios

Advice

  • Requires Python 3.10 or newer; install optional dependencies by use case, for example `laya[serve]` for an HTTP service and `laya[mcp]` for MCP
  • When processing long documents, always pass `max_len=8192` explicitly; by default it reads only 1024 tokens and truncates the rest — this is the easiest pitfall to hit
  • Run the examples in the Colab notebook first to confirm the output format matches your expectations before connecting it to production

Cautions

  • It is a decision model, not a conversational model; asking it to write articles or do open-ended answers will disappoint
  • Accuracy on long documents becomes unstable beyond 8192 tokens; the README itself provides measured curves
  • You must deploy the model weights yourself (they are on Hugging Face), which imposes some machine resource requirements
